Spotlight (“Spotlight,” “we,” or “us”) is an academic law review platform at spotlight-scholar.com that connects legal scholars and writers with the journal editors who evaluate and champion their work. This policy applies to spotlight-scholar.com and the Spotlight services.

• Account information — your name and email address, provided when you register through Google sign-in or with an email and password.
• Profile information — details you add, such as your institution, department, research areas, and professional title.
• Content you submit — manuscripts, abstracts, keywords, and related metadata you upload to the platform.
• Messages — communications you exchange with editors or authors through the built-in messenger.
• Usage data — basic technical and analytics information used to operate, secure, and improve the service.

We use the information we collect to:

• provide, maintain, and secure your account and the platform;
• authenticate you and connect authors with relevant journal editors;
• send service-related emails — email verification, password resets, and notifications about messages or activity on your work; and
• improve and develop platform features.

We process this information to provide the service you request and to operate Spotlight.

Your email address is used to verify your account, sign you in, secure your account, and send you service-related notifications. We do not send you third-party marketing, and we do not sell or rent your email address.

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only:

• with service providers who help us operate the platform — for example cloud hosting, database, email delivery, and Google for sign-in — under obligations to protect it;
• when you choose to make content public or message another user; and
• when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the platform.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We offer optional sign-in with Google. When you sign in with Google, Google shares basic profile information — such as your name and email address — with us in accordance with your Google account settings and Google’s own privacy policy.
